Pusat Bahasa Mandarin (PBM) in collaboration with OIA, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), offers Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture courses for UM’s students (except Chinese Language Major), lecturers, and staff. The purpose of opening this classes is to broaden the horizons and provide a platform for learning Chinese language and culture for the academic community of Universitas Negeri Malang.

The information and schedule regarding the language and culture classes are as follows.

The Mandarin language and culture course will start on September 14, 2020. Classes will be held once a week via zoom and Whatsapp chat.

  • About Mandarin Language Classes:

    1. Beginner Class

    This class is designed for students with little or no Chinese language background. It aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of Mandarin.

    2. Improve Class

    This class is designed for students who already join the previous Mandarin class with some prior knowledge of the Chinese language. It aims to introduce students to further Mandarin by engaging in the following aspects of the language: the grammar of the language, practical exercise, the structure of Chinese characters, and daily life conversation in Chinese.

  • Chinese Culture Classes:

    1. Chinese Traveling

    Combining local characteristics of folk customs and food culture, systematically introduce local tourism characteristics, accommodation environment and traffic information, and show China’s different tourism resources, experience the colorful China.

    2. Chinese Food

    Due to the differences in climate, products, and customs in various parts of China, many flavors have been formed in the diet for a long time. There has always been a saying in China that “southern rice and north noodles”, the taste is divided into “sweet in the south, salty in the north, sour in the east and spicy in the west”.

    3. Chinese Poetry

    Chinese poetry is full of the author’s thoughts and feelings and rich imagination. The language is condensed and vivid, with distinctive rhythms, harmonious phonology, rich in musical beauty, and sentences are generally arranged in lines, focusing on the beauty of structure and form. Feel different cultures, feel ancient Chinese poetry, and feel the beauty of Chinese characters.

    4. Chinese Traditional Culture

    Learn about Chinese traditional culture such as festivals, tea art, calligraphy, traditional costumes, architecture, etc.

    5. Daily Life of Modern Chinese

    Introduce the daily life of modern Chinese people and know more real Chinese.
