Songkhla – One international student of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) named Dareeya al Singora managed to complete the thesis examination online accompanied by the Consul of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Fachri Sulaiman and several staff at the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) Songkhla. The student, who is a Thai citizen, has a Bachelor of English Language and Literature at the Department of English Literature, Faculty of Literature. During his time as a student, Dareeya also worked as a staff member at the Indonesian Consulate General in Songkhla in Thailand.

Ms Dareeya conducted an online thesis exam on Tuesday (7/4) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic situation that hit both Thailand and Indonesia. Thesis exams that were originally scheduled to be held in Malang had to be conducted online as well as other academic activities at UM. The thesis entitled “The Journey Of Being Multilingual While Learning English In A Non-English Speaking Country” was guided by Prof. Dr. Yazid Basthomi, M.A. as the first supervisor and Mrs. Aulia Apriana, M.Pd as the second supervisor. In addition to the two supervisors, Dareyaa was also tested by Prof. Bambang Yudi Cahyono, M.A. Ph.D.

After completing the exam, Mr. Fachri sent a short message to Prof. Yazid that he was very pleased that finally one of the Thai citizens was able to complete his studies. He also added that in the past Dareeya had come to Malang with 5 other Thais, but only Dareeya had succeeded to become a representative of Thailand who performed well at UM. Not only delivering messages, Mr. Fachri also sent several photos taken during the exam. Received the message, Prof. Yazid also responded by saying many thanks for the support given. He felt very happy that Dareeya was finally able to finish the thesis and take the thesis examination. He also hopes that this will strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Thailand, especially Southern Thailand.
