The Faculty of Applied Sciences at UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch successfully hosted an event titled Global Outreach Program 6.0 (GOP 6.0) from August 21 to 25, 2023. The event encompassed a formal welcoming ceremony, esteemed guest lectures, cultural presentations, and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative involving the donation of wheelchairs to a local hospital. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Yamin Yasin, the Rector of UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch, on Monday, August 21.

A group of 10 students from Universitas Negeri Malang, representing various faculties such as FMIPA, FEB, FT, and FPSi, partook in the program. The students were accompanied by Dr. Jamaliatul Badriyah, a mathematics lecturer from FMIPA UM. Throughout the duration of the program, UiTM generously provided accommodations, transportation, internet access, and meals free of charge.

On the second day, the students actively engaged in a 3-minute research competition, where they skillfully presented their research within the given time frame. UM fielded two teams, led by Alanis Nadiyah Nabilah and Naila Syakira. Alanis achieved second place in the competition. Furthermore, Dr. Jamal, in addition to supervising the students, delivered an enlightening lecture on QSAR: Statistical Methods for Chemical Research. Subsequently, the students enjoyed various recreational activities, visited the library and laboratories at UiTM Negeri Sembilan Branch, and participated in a community service program jointly organized by the participating universities in GOP 6.0 and CMH Specialist Hospital in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. The event was inaugurated by Henderick Koo Teck Leng, the CEO of CMH Specialist Hospital. It included informative presentations by two experts from CMH Specialist Hospital, complimentary medical check-ups, and the donation of seven wheelchairs to CMH Specialist Hospital from student contributions.

The UM student representatives who participated in GOP 6.0 were immensely pleased to have the opportunity to establish new international connections. Additionally, they indirectly acquired a deeper understanding of the cultural disparities between Indonesia and Malaysia. Not only did they gain knowledge about different cultures, but they also forged strong bonds with their Malaysian counterparts, creating farewells that were heartfelt yet meaningful.

“The experience during the GOP 6.0 program was undoubtedly exciting, and we learned more about Malay culture, not just in Indonesia but also in Malaysia,” said Zalfa Awwala, Coordinator of UM Student Representatives for the GOP 6.0 Program.

The closing ceremony, which took place on Friday, August 25, was officially concluded by Ts. Dr. Noorlis Binti Ahmad, the Deputy Rector of Universitas Teknologi MARA Negeri Sembilan Branch. Dr. Noorlis expressed her belief that this program played a pivotal role in fostering international cooperation. It is hoped that GOP 7.0 can be organized next year in collaboration with universities in Indonesia, including UM. The closing ceremony was marked by captivating dance and theater performances by the students.
