Busan, South Korea.

Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) proudly announces that two of its distinguished students, Annisa and Eko, are currently participating in the 2024 International Summer School (ISS) at Pukyong National University (PKNU) in South Korea from 24 July – 1 Aug 2024. This participation underscores UM’s commitment to the Korea-Indonesia Public Universities Academic Network Consortium (PUAN Consortium), highlighting the university’s dedication to fostering international collaboration and cultural exchange.

The PKNU-ISS program is more than an academic endeavor; it aims to provide a comprehensive cultural immersion experience. Designed to go beyond earning academic credits, the program offers students numerous opportunities to explore and experience the rich cultural heritage of South Korea, with a particular focus on the vibrant city of Busan.

Over the course of nine stimulating days, Annisa and Eko, along with other international participants, will engage in professional development, interdisciplinary studies, and cross-cultural learning. The program features a variety of activities designed to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of Korean culture, including:

  • Wearing traditional Korean costumes and learning about Korean etiquette
  • Practicing Taekwondo, Korea’s traditional martial art
  • Learning K-pop dance
  • Cooking Korean cuisine
  • Making traditional Korean alcohol
  • Participating in marine sports in Busan
  • Touring the Gamcheon Culture Village
  • And many more enriching experiences

Each participant is required to take one of these engaging courses, which is equivalent to 1 academic credit. These activities are crafted to not only enhance academic knowledge but also to provide a hands-on experience of Korea’s unique cultural landscape.

“The PKNU-ISS program represents a significant opportunity for our students to gain invaluable insights into Korean culture and society,” said Evi Eliyanah, Director of the Office of International Affairs. “We are proud to see Annisa and Eko representing Universitas Negeri Malang on this international stage, and we are confident that the skills and experiences they acquire will benefit them both academically and personally.”

This initiative reflects Universitas Negeri Malang’s ongoing commitment to international education and cultural exchange, aligning with the objectives of the PUAN Consortium agreement. By participating in such prestigious programs, UM continues to foster a global perspective among its students, preparing them to be well-rounded and culturally aware individuals.
