THE INDONESIAN AID SCHOLARSHIP (TIAS) 2026/2027
Introduction
The Indonesian AID Scholarship Program (TIAS) is a prestigious initiative by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia under the Grant Provision Program, aimed at supporting the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the field of education. Rooted in the enduring spirit of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference and aligned with the principles of South-South Cooperation, TIAS embodies Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening solidarity, cooperation, and mutual development among partner countries.
Administered in accordance with prevailing national regulations, the TIAS Program serves as a strategic instrument of soft diplomacy. It is designed to foster stronger bilateral and multilateral relations, promote cultural and knowledge exchange, and enhance Indonesia’s role and visibility in international forums. Through this scholarship, the Government of Indonesia seeks to build long-term partnerships by investing in the development of human capital in fellow developing nations.
TIAS specifically targets civil servants, government officials (excluding active military personnel), and individuals officially nominated by their respective governments. The program offers opportunities to pursue diploma, undergraduate, and master’s degrees at selected Indonesian universities and polytechnics that meet national and international academic standards.
In addition to academic enrichment, the TIAS Program offers recipients a unique opportunity to experience Indonesia’s cultural diversity, multilingual society, and dynamic social environment. Scholars will not only gain valuable knowledge and competencies relevant to their fields, but also cultivate global perspectives and cross-cultural skills essential for future leadership roles in public service and governance.
Upon completion of their studies, TIAS scholars are expected to return to their home countries equipped with enhanced expertise and professional networks, enabling them to contribute significantly to national development efforts and regional cooperation.
TIAS at UM
Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), as one of Indonesia’s leading universities with a strong commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration, proudly participates in the TIAS (The Indonesian AID Scholarship) Program. Building on its longstanding engagement with international scholarship programs, including the Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship since 2008, UM is now expanding its role in global education through TIAS, specifically by supporting the education of civil servants and government-nominated individuals from partner countries.
UM hosts a vibrant academic environment enriched by students from across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Pacific. This diversity fosters a multicultural and inclusive atmosphere conducive to meaningful cross-cultural learning and collaboration. TIAS recipients at UM will benefit from high-quality academic programs supported by modern teaching facilities, research centers, and access to an international student dormitory that ensures a comfortable and supportive living environment.
In addition, UM is nationally and internationally recognized for its Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA) program. This program provides an immersive language and cultural learning experience, equipping international students with the tools necessary to fully engage in Indonesian academic and social life.
Studying at UM through the TIAS Program offers not only academic advancement but also personal growth, intercultural competence, and valuable professional networks. UM is dedicated to helping scholars develop their potential and contribute meaningfully to the development of their home countries upon returning as graduates of an esteemed Indonesian institution.
