Sunday, 28 April 2024

Sunday is a Car Free Day (CFD) at Idjen Boulevard, Malang. On the third day of UM iCamp 2019 which was on Sunday, 18 August 1019, the participants of UM iCamp 2019 were invited to join CFD. In CFD, the participants did a treasure game. This game aims to practice Bahasa Indonesia they have learned on the previous day with Mas Aki on Indonesian for Beginner session; thus, all the clues were in Bahasa Indonesia and they had to interact with the local people by speaking in Bahasa Indonesia. To play this game, the participants should understand the clues. They were divided into 9 big groups. They had to follow the rules and clues spread in 3 posts to finish the game.

The first clue was to find the committee wearing the yellow T-shirt of UM iCamp 2019 in Museum Brawijaya who brought the next clue. They have to find the committee in 30 minutes to get the first task. The first task was buying some Indonesian traditional food in the traditional market held in CFD. In buying food or anything, there were also participants practicing bargaining in traditional market. After they got the Indonesian traditional food, they had to keep it to get the score in the third post later. Finished doing the first task, all the participants walked to the second post: Gereja Ijen (Ijen Church).

In the second post, they met some committees in the yard adjacent to Ijen Church. The participants got the second clue from the committees: taking a picture with a local people and going to the third post, Chatime. One member should take one picture with one local person; each participant was not allowed to take pictures with the same person as other members. Some participants took pictures with a bride’s family in front of the church. There were also some participants who took pictures along the way to Chatime.

In Chatime, the participants should meet one of the committees wearing a black jacket to get the next clue. The third post was also the post to give score of the Indonesian traditional food they had bought. The committee wearing black jacket was the first jury. In the third post, their task was to post their picture with local people on Instagram or any other platforms (Facebook or Twitter) and tag OIA UM account. They posted the pictures with the hashtags of #umicamp2019 #umicamp2019explorerace. This would be scored in the next and last post. Finished doing the task, they got the next clue. It was finding the second jury, one of the committees wearing the yellow T-shirt of UM iCamp 2019, grey jacket, and grey veil in the next and last post.

In the last post, which was in Jalan Semarang gate of Universitas Negeri Malang, the participants’ task of posting pictures with local people were scored. After that, they had to prepare themselves to go to Bromo, one of the most desired places to visit.

Broaden Your Vistas, Elevate Your Global Endeavour. They finally speak in Bahasa Indonesia with the local people. By trying to speak in Bahasa Indonesia, they got the chance to practice what they had learned in Indonesian life. They had learned a new language and culture. They can practice it again later on the next session of UM iCamp 2019 or even after UM iCamp. It is their new experience and knowledge.
