Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) is pleased to share an exciting opportunity from Okayama University, Japan, for students to participate in the Short-Term Summer Program 2026. Titled “Discovering Japan: Culture, Society, Sustainability,” this two-week program offers a unique platform to explore Japanese culture and everyday life through academic lectures, cultural experiences, and field visits.

Program Highlights

  • Academic Credits: Earn 3 academic credits and receive a Certificate of Completion and an Academic Transcript.
  • Immersive Experience: Engage with local communities and interact with students from Okayama University.
  • Cultural Exploration: A dynamic blend of traditional and modern aspects of Japan through excursions and field visits.

Schedule & Duration

  • Program Period: July 3 – July 17, 2026
  • Arrival (Check-in): July 2, 2026 (09:00 – 17:00)
  • Departure (Check-out): July 18, 2026 (10:00 – 14:00)
  • Language of Instruction: English (Min. proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2).

Financial Details

Program Fee: JPY 280,000

  • Inclusions: Tuition, on-campus dormitory accommodation (shared rooms), course materials, cultural activities, excursions, and Overseas Travel Accident Insurance (valid July 2–18).
  • Exclusions: Round-trip airfare, transportation to/from the dormitory, meals, visa fees, and personal expenses.

Accommodation

Participants will stay in university dormitories on the Okayama University campus, providing convenient access to classrooms and facilities. Rooms will be shared between two participants.

Application Timeline

  • Application Deadline: May 8, 2026
  • Notification of Results: May 15, 2026
  • Confirmation & Passport Submission: May 20, 2026
  • Payment Deadline: Early June 2026

Important Notes

  • Visa: Applicants are responsible for obtaining their own Japanese visa. A visa support letter will be provided by Okayama University after acceptance.
  • Participant Quota: Minimum 10 students, maximum 20 students. The program may be cancelled if the minimum number is not reached.
  • Mandatory Attendance: All classes and program activities are mandatory to receive the certificate and credits.
