The Office of International Affairs (OIA), in collaboration with the Library at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), the English Department at UM, and The Indonesian Young Academy of Science (ALMI), proudly presents the Rethinking EurAsia Lecture Series (REALS) 2025. This inspiring annual program brings together influential speakers, leading scholars, and participants from across Asia and Europe to explore this year’s theme:
“Youth as Drivers of Change and Innovations in Asia and Europe.”
Supported by a generous grant from the Eurasia Foundation (from Asia), REALS 2025 highlights the creativity, resilience, and determination of young people as they pioneer solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. From climate action and technological innovation to cultural movements and social entrepreneurship, youth across Asia and Europe are demonstrating the power of fresh ideas and collaborative spirit.
This lecture series offers an enriching opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives from multiple disciplines like technology, culture, education, politics, sustainability, and more. Through thought-provoking talks and discussions, participants are invited to reflect on how youth-led innovations are shaping a more inclusive and sustainable global future.
At its heart, REALS 2025 is a space for dialogue, learning, and connection, designed to inspire action and foster cross-cultural understanding among all who attend.

Why REALS 2025?
Young people today are at the forefront of shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable world. Realitas 2025 celebrates their role as catalysts for change by exploring how youth-driven ideas and initiatives are transforming societies across Asia and Europe.
This lecture series highlights the power of youth-led innovations in addressing global challenges whether in technology, climate action, social justice, cultural revitalization, or education reform. It offers a unique platform for participants to engage with diverse perspectives, exchange ideas, and reflect on how emerging generations are redefining the future of our interconnected world.
By bridging disciplines and fostering cross-cultural dialogue, REALS 2025 aims to inspire attendees to see the potential of youth as agents of positive change and to encourage collaborative efforts that transcend borders.

LecturerBelow is the tentative schedule for the Rethinking EurAsia Lecture Series (REALS) 2025, featuring a diverse lineup of sessions that explore the theme of “Youth as Drivers of Change and Innovations in Asia and Europe.” This year’s series includes a mix of online and on-site lectures, allowing participants to engage with experts and peers in various formats.
Each meeting generally consists of two sessions with the following time allocation:ss
- 1st Session: 1:30 – 3:00 PM (Jakarta Time/GMT +7)
- 2nd Session: 3:00 – 4:30 PM (Jakarta Time/GMT +7)
While UM students are required to attend both sessions for each meeting, we also encourage general participants to ensure full participation and maximize the learning experience.

On the first week of REALS 2025, held on Friday, 12 September 2025, Prof. Evi Eliyanah officially opened the program, followed by a session on “Youths Are Both the Present and the Future,” which provided participants with valuable new insights.
The second session was led by M. Aris Ichwanto, Ph.D, focused on the topic of “Assistant Professor in Vocational Education Development Policy.” The session was highly engaging and interactive, offering participants an extraordinary new perspective 💡👀

The second week of REALS 2025 brought another set of incredible speakers! The enthusiasm of the participants remained as strong as in the first week💫
The first session, delivered by IGAK Satrya Wibawa, Ph.D, examined the topic of “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Communication.” Despite the session being held online via Zoom, the energy and excitement from participants attending offline was truly remarkable.
The second session was presented by Prof. Hadi Nur and focused on “Rethinking Eurasia: Higher Education Inspiration.” This session was highly interactive and insightful, with both participants and the speaker actively engaging in meaningful discussions🗣💭

📌 REALS 2025 Recap Week 3
We had so much fun with two incredible speakers this third week! Held on the UM library hall (2nd floor), REALS was full of energy and enthusiasm💡✨
Our first speaker was Agnisa Maulani Wisesa, M.A. a lecturer in the Department of Arts and Design at Universitas Negeri Malang. She delivered a session on ‘Art We Create in Times of Resistance’. This topic sparked strong interest among the participants, particularly through the interactive games she had prepared 🎨✍🏻
Next, we welcomed our second speaker, Nohan Arum Romadlona, M.K.M. a lecturer in the Department of Community Health Science at Universitas Negeri Malang. Before presenting her main material, she challenged the participants with a fun and engaging quiz. Her session, “The Role of Indonesian Youth: From Demographic Transition to Health Innovation” was highly relevant to our everyday lives 📊♻

Held in a hybrid, the enthusiasm of both the speakers and participants continued to shine throughout the sessions 👀💯
The first session was opened by Dr. Annisa R. Beta, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “Everyday Affects, Minor Aesthetics: Youth Repertoires of Citizenship in Indonesia.” Her session offered deep insights into the dynamics of youth, culture, and civic engagement.
The second session featured Dr. rer. nat. Adi Nur Cahyono, M.Pd, who presented an inspiring talk on “Shaping the Future: Youth-Driven STEM Trails and Modelling for the SDGs Across Continents.” He emphasized the vital role of youth innovation in advancing global sustainability goals.

The second session continued with Nurenzia Yannuar, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., who delivered an engaging talk on “Voices of Change: Language and Youth Activism in Indonesia.” Through her presentation, participants gained a deeper understanding of how language functions as a powerful tool for youth activism and social transformation. On October 23 2025, Prof. Chung Joon Kon delivered an insightful session titled “Toward a New Community – Its Necessity and Meaning,” emphasizing the importance of unity, collaboration, and shared values in building a sustainable and inclusive future.
The following day, October 24 2025, continued with an engaging presentation by Ms. Aldian Irma Amaruddin, MD, PhD, who explored the topic “From Invisible Enemies to Hidden Allies: What Parasites and Microbes Teach Us About Change.” This session offered a fascinating perspective on how even the smallest organisms can reveal lessons about adaptation, transformation, and resilience 💫

On 31 October 2025, the first session was led by Prof. Dr. Nico Nassenstein, who delivered a captivating talk titled “Perspectives on Young People’s Voices from Africa to Asia and Europe: Performed Creativity, Linguistic Diversity, and Shared Dreams.” The session highlighted the beauty of youth expression, cross-cultural understanding, and the unifying power of creativity and language.
Continuing the momentum, the second session featured Ahmad Faizuddin, S.Pd.I, M.Ed., PhD, with an engaging presentation titled “Cultivating the Changemakers: Educational Leadership for Youth-Driven Innovation in Eurasian Contexts.” His talk encouraged young leaders to embrace innovation and take active roles in shaping the future through transformative education🎓
