Grand Opening of One Asia Lecture Series (OALS) 2019

Malang – Tuesday (26/8) Office of International Affairs of Universitas Negeri Malang held the Grand opening of One Asia Lecture Series (OALS). It is the second year of OALS collaboration with One Asia Foundation (OAF). OALS 2019 gains “Asian Comunity: Asian Philosophy, Culture and Tradition of Peace” as its main theme. This event will be held until April 2019 which separated into nine meetings differently in each theme and lectures. This year, OALS is participated by 150 UM students from different major. This program would choose students with the best final project performance to win the scholarships.

The Grand opening and the first-day lecture was started at 08.30 by reaching the national anthem of Indonesia followed by the speech of the director of Office of International Affairs of Universitas Negeri Malang, Evi Eliyanah, S.S, M.A. This event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bafadal, M. Pd, as the 4th vice-chancellor of UM which then followed by giving the souvenirs to the 4th vice chancellor, speakers and sponsorship.

In this first-day lecture, OALS had 2 lectures from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Universitas Negeri Malang that would give two different topics of discussion with Rani Prita Prabawangi, the Program Director of OALS, as the moderator. The first lecture was delivered by Kuston Sultoni, S. Si, M. Pd from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, under the theme of “Education for peace: Sports Science for Character Building”. In his lecture, he highlighted that sportives and peace was the important things in every competition. “It is not about the gun, but the man behind the gun”, he said. The way he delivered the lecture was so simple and gained the enthusiasm of the participants. After delivering the lecture, Mr. Sultoni along with the Program Director of OALS, Rani Prita Prabawangi, taking a photo with all of the participants.

The second Lecture was delivered by Kelik Desta Rahmanto, S. Sn, M. Pd, one of the faculties of Art and Design Department. He brought “Fostering Culture of Peace Through Arts: Peace Education Through Music” as the theme of his lecture. He mentioned that music can be a way to reach peace and tolerance. The participants really enjoy the topic of the discussion that Mr. Rahmanto’s brought. The lecture was closed by a photo session with all of the participants.

After having two interesting discussions, OALS Grand Opening closed by having lunch together which sponsored by Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) at 13:00.
