The 2nd Meeting of OALS: “Media Power in Indonesia and the Future of News” by Dr. Ross Tapsel

Malang – Office of International Affairs of Universitas Negeri Malang had been successfully held the second meeting of One Asia Lecture Series (OALS) on Monday, March 4, 2019. In this meeting, OALS brought a very special lecturer, Dr. Ross Tapsel, a senior lecturer and researcher at the Australian National University (ANU) College of Asia and the Pacific. The topic of this second lecture of was “Media Power in Indonesia and the Future of News”.

The topic of “Media Power in Indonesia and the Future of News” presented by Dr. Tapsel was an interesting topic. It was attended by more than 200 students of Universitas Negeri Malang. The lecture started at 01.00 p.m. at Aula Fakultas Ekonomi, 2nd floor of E3 building led by Ibu Evi Eliyanah, M.A. and came off to be a very interesting discussion. Dr. Tapsel shared his thought and new perspectives to the participants how big the power tof media in Indonesia and how to overcome it. Not only talking about the power of media in Indonesia and its significance to the future of news, but Dr.Tapsel had also amused the participants by telling his jokes which made the participants enjoyed the lecture intensively. Then the lecture continued by 30 minutes of questions and answers session. The participants were very enthusiast; they asked various issues related to the topic and the discussion run very smoothly. The questions and answers session was followed by handing over the Token of Appreciation to Dr. Ross Tapsel by Ibu Evi Eliyanah, M.A.

Finally, the event was ended by a photo session with all of the participants and closed at 03.00 in the afternoon. Dr. Ross Tapsel had also welcomed the participant to a book signing session – a commercial book entitled “Media Power in Indonesia: Oligarchs, Citizens, and the Digital Revolution” by Dr. Ross Tapsel – at the end of the meeting.
